Author: Jerry Darnell.
This spiral bound book is by our next-door-neighbor blacksmith at Mill Creek Forge. Jerry has a lot of knowledge and has taught blacksmithing classes for over 22 years at John C. Campbell Folk School and at various conferences throughout the US, for which he developed these step-by-step directions for making various 18th century items. As he has aged, Jerry has worried that the knowledge he has will simply be lost, so he is beginning to compile books of his project directions. This is the second volume he has done.
As you can see in the photo, these are presented exactly as Jerry has them, handwritten and with Jerry's own sketches. This is meant to be an informational book for blacksmiths and for others interested in how old ironwork was made. It is not a slick fancy book.
This second volume includes directions for making 17 different additional colonial lighting implements, 36 additional pieces of iron hearth equipment, 5 more different early American hardware items, and 7 additional brackets and hooks. The book contains projects for a mix of skill levels, simple to advanced.
Jerry is one of the top blacksmiths in this country today, and this is a must-have for anyone interested in recreating 18th century forged ironwork, beginner or advanced. It is ideal as a reference for blacksmiths at historic sites.
We are not selling this at any profit, so that the information can be shared as inexpensively as possible.
