Product Description

18th century unlidded pipkin, made to be used on top of an iron trivet in hearth cooking.

Glazed on interior only.

3" tall x 4" diameter at the top.  Capacity is  1 pint.

The original of this pipkin was found archaeologically in coastal Georgia in an 18th century context.  It probably was British but could have been locally made.

Pipkins should be used either near the fire or else with coals under them.  They are not meant to be used over direct flame; any lick of flame may crack them.

This is a new piece of pottery made in the old style, not an antique.
