Product Description

Tiny redware pot for ointments or salves, glazed interior and exterior.

British, 17th - very early 18th centuries.

Ointment pot is 1 3/4" in height.

A note for historical cooks:  It is period-incorrect to use these in quantity in the kitchen, for bits of herbs and spices, etc.  They held ointments, not foods.  The kitchen could have one ointment pot or perhaps two -- maybe containing an ointment for burns-- but not loads of them.

This is a new piece of pottery made in the old style, not an antique.
